Muskingum holds off Yellow Jackets, 31-24
Granger Long’s 20-yard touchdown reception with less than two minutes remaining in last Saturday’s game lifted visiting Muskingum to a 31-24 non-conference victory at Waynesburg.
The Yellow Jackets tied the game at 24-24 on Jake Dougherty’s 3-yard run and Garret Horne’s point-after at 9:20 of the fourth quarter.
Waynesburg advanced to Muskingum’s 32-yard line in the final minute, but turned the ball over on downs.
Dougherty opened the scoring on a 5-yard run for the only points of the first quarter.
Muskingum took the lead early in the second quarter on Brody Hahn’s first touchdown pass of the game, a 23-yard pass to Terry Geiger.
The Yellow Jackets regained the lead at 4:43 on Cole Booth’s 72-yard touchdown reception from Tyler Perone. Dougherty’s two-point run gave the home team a 14-7 lead. Horne hit a 21-yard field goal as time expired in the first half for a 17-7 halftime lead.
Musking regained the lead in the third quarter on Hahn’s 10-yard touchdown pass to Warren Wilson, Ross Barnett’s 23-yard field goal and a fumble recovered in the end zone.
Perone completed 7-of-15 passes for 151 yards. Booth caught four passes for 139 yards. Chad Walker gained a team-high 72 yards on 17 carries for the Yellow Jackets.
