Rockets fly by Mapletown, 40-6
Jefferson-Morgan put up 26 points in the second quarter after a scoreless first quarter last Friday night, and then put the game away in the third quarter for a 40-6 Tri-County South Conference victory at Mapletown.
Colby Rutan spotted the Rockets the lead at 8:36 of the second quarter on a 20-yard run. Justin Maddich added the two-point run for an 8-0 lead.
Jacob Broadwater scored on a 9-yard run at 6:14 and Austin Foreman galloped 65 yards with 3:40 left in the first half for a 20-0 lead.
Rutan scored his second touchdown of the quarter on a 9-yard run with just 49 seconds remaining.
The Rockets (1-1, 1-2) invoked the mercy rule in the third quarter. Maddich scored on a 52-yard run, with Rutan added the two-point conversion, and Broadwater powering in from two yards for a 40-lead with 1:58 left in the quarter.
Mapletown (0-1, 0-3) avoided the shutout when Lance Stevenson scored on a 14-yard run with 8:06 left in the game.
Broadwater led the Rockets with 45 yards rushing on 10 carries. He also completed 1-of-4 passes for four yards.
Foreman carried the ball two times for 69 yards.
Stevenson gained 55 yards on eight carries and had one reception for 47 yards. Max Vanata completed 2-of-8 passes for 50 yards with an interception.
