Hopewell edges Waynesburg Central, 12-7

Waynesburg Central scored in the fourth quarter and had the ball with less than a minute remaining in the game, but the Raiders fell short against visiting Hopewell, 12-7, in Tri-County West Conference action last Friday night.

Caleb Shriver found Luke Robinson open for a 25-yard touchdown pass with 2:19 left in the game. The Raiders trailed by five after Scott Benco’s extra point.

Waynesburg (0-3, 1-3) had the ball with around 30 seconds left in the game, but the Vikings intercepted Shriver to end the last-gasp scoring chance.

Garrett Nicol scored for Hopewell (1-2, 2-2) at 8:18 of the second quarter on a 4-yard run. Kenneth Hairston gathered in a 39-yard scoring pass from Jay’von Jeter at 1:46 to give Hopewell a 12-0 lead at halftime.

Shriver completed 4-of-11 passes for 61 yards and two interceptions. Nate Stephenson carried the ball 17 times of 69 yards. Robinson had 45 yards rushing on eight attempts.
