Rohanna opens with even-par round
Rachel Rohanna went out in 2-over 38 in the opening round of the the Guardian Championship, but recovered on the back nine Friday afternoon to finish in even-par 72.
The Waynesburg Central graduate is sitting tied in a logjam at 47th place, the projected cut line for the low 60 scores and ties.
Rohanna had only one par on the back nine that included five birdies and three bogeys.
“I made some great putts today,” Rohanna said of her birdie run on the back nine. “The greens were really tough. I started out with 21 putts on my front nine, but finally started getting them to drop on the back.”
Rohanna needed 35 putts to complete the opening round of the Symetra Tour event in Prattville, Alabama.
Rohanna was generally satisfied with the way she hit the ball Friday.
“A few shots to the green that weren’t the best, but, overall, I was happy with ball striking,” said Rohanna, who hit 15-of-18 greens in regulation and 8-of-14 fairways.
Rohanna is pleased where she sits as she prepared for her second-round tee time at 11:40 a.m. local time.
“I’m hoping to get a round in the 60’s tomorrow. I’m hitting it well enough and putting well, just gotta put it together for all 18 holes,” said Rohanna.
Kendall Dye and Avery George share the first-round lead at 7-under 65.
