Mikes clinch section title outright in win over Uniontown
The Carmichaels boys golf team clinched the Section 8-AA title outright in a 207-220 victory over Uniontown on Saturday morning at Carmichaels Golf Club.
The Mikes improved to 14-0 in section and overall play, while the Red Raiders fell to 12-2 in section and overall play. Both teams will enter the WPIAL Team Playoffs.
Uniontown’s Danae Rugola shot an even-par 37 on the front nine to earn medalist honors. Sister Adena Rugola shot a one-over 38 to put the Red Raiders in good position, as Carmichaels’ No. 1 golfer Matt Barrish carded a 38 and teammate Taggart Shea also fired a 38 as the Mikes’ second golfer.
Carmichaels’ Ethan Greene and Uniontown’s Michael Mercadante both shot a 44 to give the Red Raiders a one-shot edge after three from each team were in the clubhouse.
Delaney Lohr’s 44 bested Nate Moody’s 46 to give the Mikes a one-shot advantage, and Carmichaels’ Remmey Lohr shot a 43 to Gage Brugger’s 55 to put the match away for the home team and coach Dave Briggs.
The Red Raiders’ Maddie Myers shot a 68 and the Mikes’ Bradley Walker carded a 51. Both scores weren’t used in the official team scoring.
Carmichaels earned at least a share of the section crown on Friday afternoon with a 206-266 victory against Brownsville.
Barrish and Shea shared medalist honors at 1-over 38. Delaney Lohr finished with 39. Greene (45) and Remmey Lohr (46) closed the scoring. Walker’s 47 was not used.
Lindsay Sethman had the low score for the Falcons with a 2-over 39. Dalton Mullen (44), E.J. Victor (46), Jake Defigio (59), and Jake Carnachan (78) rounded out the scoring.
