Raiders clinch Section 6-AA track title

The Waynesburg Central boys secured the Section 6-AA championship Wednesday afternoon with an 82-52 victory at Washington.

The Lady Raiders defeated the Prexies, 96-20, to finish second in the section behind the Brownsville girls and earn a team playoff berth.

Waynesburg’s Avery McConville won two throwing events for the Raiders (7-0), taking first in the shot put (38-10) and discus (110-11). 

Daniel Layton (110 high hurdles, 18.78), Caleb Shriver (100, 11.3), Gabe McConville (1,600, 5:08), Anthony Kutcher (800, 2:19), Caleb Shriver (long jump, 19-11½), Garrett Gumbarevic (high jump, 5-6), and Scott Benco (javelin, 161-8) also finished first for the Raiders.

The Raiders’ Kutcher, Kullen Thorne, Jack Church and Gabe McConville won the 3,200 relay in 12:49.

Washington’s Tyrell Dunn (400, 53.8), Leo Saldivar (300 intermediate hurdles, 48.3), Zahmere Robinson (200, 23.7; triple jump, 43-½), Brendan Hanning (3,200, 13:51), The Prexies finished first in the 400 relay in 45.78.

Madison Brooks (shot put, 32-2; discus, 98-7) and Ashanti Cole (javelin, 73-4) led a sweep of the first-place finishes in the throwing events for the Lady Raiders.

Makayla Russell (100 high hurdles, 19.14), Juliana Fowler (100), Kaitlyn Pester (1,600, 6:39), Emma Mankey (300 intermediate hurdles, 56.9), Emma Woods (800, 2:58), Regan Carlson (200, 30.0), Talia Tuttle (long jump), Lauren Strelick (triple jump, 23-11), and Bree Echegaray (high jump, 5-2) all finished first for Waynesburg.
