Yellow Jackets fall on the road at Grove City (copy)

Waynesburg had a tough Presidents’ Athletic Conference opener Wednesday night with both the men’s and women’s basketball teams falling at Grove City.

The Grove City women defeated the Yellow Jackets, 77-56, while the Wolverines handed the Waynesburg men a 73-45 loss.

The Grove City women led 22-17, 41-36 and 62-47 at the quarter breaks. The home team salted away the win with a 15-9 fourth-quarter advantage.

Brooke Fuller led Waynesburg (0-1, 1-5) with 16 points. Zoie Smtih finished with 13 points and eight rebounds.

Kate Balcom scored a game-high 25 points for Grove City (1-0, 7-0). Jess Bowen and Sedona Campbell both finished with 11.

The Grove City men led 30-21 at halftime and maintained the advantage over the final 20 minutes to improve to 1-0 in the PAC and 3-5 overall.

Frank Bozicevic was the lone player for Waynesburg (0-1, 0-7) in double figures with 13.

James Wells scored a game-high 20 points for the Wolverines. Erik Meiners and Monessen graduate Justice Rice both added 10 points.
