Saint Vincent sweeps visiting Yellow Jackets

The Saint Vincent men’s and women’s basketball squads are among the best in the Presidents’ Athletic Conference, and visiting Waynesburg discovered why Saturday night with the Bearcats sweeping past the Yellow Jackets.

The Saint Vincent men defeated the Yellow Jackets, 88-60, while the Lady Bearcats handed Waynesburg an 80-57 loss.

The Bearcats (12-2, 19-4) led 50-24 at halftime.

Matt Popeck and Brennan Smith shared scoring honors for the Yellow Jackets (6-8, 7-16) with nine points apiece.

David Stephen scored a game-high 17 points for Saint Vincent. Mike Simmons (13), Tom Kromka (12), and Shemar Bennett (10) also scored in double figures.

The Lady Bearcats (13-1, 19-4) controlled play in the first and fourth quarters by outscoring Waynesburg, 44-23.

Andrea Orlosky led the Yellow Jackets (5-9, 7-16) with 15 points and seven rebounds. Erin Joyce scored 11 and Haley Porter added 10.

Madison Kollar finished with a double-double, scoring a game-high 24 points and grabbing 10 rebounds. Maria Morgan (14) and Taylor Boring (10) also scored in double figures.
