Big fourth quarter carries Waynesburg past Cougars, 53-47

Lucas Garber scored 10 of his game-high 21 points in the fourth period as Waynesburg Central rallied for a 53-47 victory over host Charleroi in a non-section boys basketball game Wednesday night.

The Cougars (8-6) held an 8-7 lead after the first period and the Raiders (7-8) took a slim 22-21 halftime advantage. Charleroi jumped back on top with a 16-9 edge in the third period to go up 37-31.

Waynesburg reclaimed the lead and secured the victory by outscoring the hosts 22-10 in the fourth period. Garber made six of seven free throws down the stretch and hit three 3-pointers in the game. Caleb Shriver made two 3-pointers in scoring eight points and Richard Bortz also tallied eight points for the Raiders.

Lee Zanardini tossed in two treys and 17 points for the Cougars. Joe Caruso followed with 12 points and Zach Usher had eight points.
