Grove City women defeat Waynesburg, 70-65

The Grove City women outscored visiting Waynesburg in the first and third quarters Friday night, and the advantage was enough to carry the Wolverines to a 70-65 victory in Presidents’ Athletic Conference action.

The game was originally scheduled for Saturday, but was moved up a day because of the forecasted winter storm.

Grove City (6-3, 11-7) held a 41-31 scoring advantage in the first and third quarters. The Yellow Jackets (2-7, 4-13) carried play in the other two quarters, outscoring the host squad, 34-29.

Brooke Fuller had a double-double for Waynesburg with 10 points and 10 rebounds. Andrea Orlosky led the way with a game-high 21 points. Monica Starre (14) and Julie DeKlaven (13) also scored in double digits.

Jess Bowen had a double-double for the Wolverines with 17 points and 11 rebounds. Kate Balcom scored 16 and McKenzie Black finished with 12.

The Waynesburg men trailed by two at halftime, but the Yellow Jackets were unable to rally in the second half for a 71-63 loss.

Jake Dougherty led the Yellow Jackets (2-7, 4-13) with 21 points and seven rebounds. Brennan Smith finished with 13.

Isaac Williams and Nate Peters both scored 14 for the Wolverines (5-4, 10-7). Monessen’s Justice Rice and James Wells finished with 11 points apiece.
