Copperheads holding on to first place in FCBL

Carmichaels suffered only its second loss of the season, 4-2, at Mill Run on Sunday evening but the Copperheads still head a grip on first place in the Fayette County Baseball League going into TuesdayÄ¢¹½ÊÓÆµ games.

Carmichaels was 14-2, followed by Mill Run at 12-3 and MitchÄ¢¹½ÊÓÆµ Bail Bonds at 11-4 as the regular season was nearing its close this week.

HereÄ¢¹½ÊÓÆµ a roundup of Carmichaels’ recent games:

Carmichaels 11, AMD 0 — Joby Lapkowicz struck out 14 and scattered three hits to lead Carmichaels to an 11-0 Fayette County Baseball League road victory on July 10 at AMD Industries.

Lapkowicz only walked one in the 6-inning victory as Carmichaels solidified its spot atop the standings with a 13-1 record.

Carmichaels scored four in the top of the second inning, and then added two runs in the top of the third, fifth and sixth innings and a solo run in the fourth.

Chuck Gasti belted a solo home run in the top of the third inning.

John Przybylinski had a double and single in the victory. Joel Spishock also had a double. Brant Bonadio, Joe Pacconi and Nate Torbich all had two singles for the Copperheads.

Alex Adams doubled for AMD Industries (2-10).

Carmichaels 11, MitchÄ¢¹½ÊÓÆµ Bail Bonds 6 — Carmichaels scored all the runs it needed in the first two innings to secure a key Fayette County Baseball League victory, 11-6, against MitchÄ¢¹½ÊÓÆµ Bail Bonds on July 8.

The Copperheads gained some distance in the league standings, sitting in first place with a 12-1 mark. MitchÄ¢¹½ÊÓÆµ Bail Bonds goes to 10-4 with the loss.

Five different players and an error helped Carmichaels put together four-run innings in the top of the first and second innings.

The home team countered with two runs in the bottom of the third inning, but the Copperheads got those runs back in the top of the sixth inning.

Carmichaels scored one more run in the top of the seventh inning, and MitchÄ¢¹½ÊÓÆµ Bail Bonds didn’t go away quietly with four runs in their last at-bat.

Joe Sabolek started and went four innings for the win. He allowed two runs with five strikeouts and four walks.

Brock Bonadio and Joby Lapkowicz doubled in the victory. Tyler Reyes had a pair of singles and three RBI, while Chuck Gasti finished with two singles and two RBI.

Noah Hansen finished with a double and single for MitchÄ¢¹½ÊÓÆµ Bail Bonds. Jason Greene added a pair of singles to the offensive attack.

Carmichaels 7, BillÄ¢¹½ÊÓÆµ Bit Service 3 — Carmichaels had a pair of three-run innings to secure a 7-3 Fayette County Baseball League home victory over BillÄ¢¹½ÊÓÆµ Bit Service on July 7.

Carmichaels remains atop the FCBL standings with an 11-1 record. BillÄ¢¹½ÊÓÆµ Bit Service goes to 7-9.

The Copperheads led 1-0 after one inning, then increased their lead to 4-0 in the bottom of the second inning. Joby LapkowiczÄ¢¹½ÊÓÆµ run-producing double keyed the inning.

BillÄ¢¹½ÊÓÆµ Bit Service posted a run in the top of the fourth inning, but Carmichaels responded with its second three-run inning in the bottom of the fifth inning. Chuck Gasti had a two-run double in the rally.

BillÄ¢¹½ÊÓÆµ Bit Service shaved into its deficit with a pair of runs in the top of the sixth inning, but the visitors were held scoreless in the top of the seventh inning.

Jacob Kinsell started and pitched 4.1 innings to earn the win. He allowed one earned run with four strikeouts and three walks.

Nick Groover took the loss, lasting two innings. He gave up four runs (two earned) with two strikeouts and six walks.
