Rohanna battles way into final round
Rachel Rohanna fought through the second round Saturday to finish with a 3-under 68 and make the cut at The CDPHP Open.
Rohanna was right at the cut line at 2-under 140 after shooting a 1-over 72 in Friday’s first round. The Waynesburg Central graduate is in an 18-way tie for 43rd place.
Ingrid Gutierrez Nunez and Maude-Aimee Leblanc share the second-round lead at 10-under 132.
Rohanna had a bogey-free round, pulling to even-par for the tournament with a birdie on No. 2.
She made the turn with a birdie on No. 10 and slipped into the final round with a birdie on No. 16.
“Yes, finally!,” Rohanna said of making the cut. “This course never was my favorite, so I’m happy to be playing tomorrow.”
Rohanna hit only 5-of-13 fairways, but 16-of-18 greens in regulation. She needed 31 putts to close out the second round.
“I just hit a lot of greens,” said Rohanna. “My putting is feeling pretty good, too, with the exception of missing a few short ones over the last two days.
“But, I do feel much better about how I’m rolling it. I’ve been trying to putt a little firmer and it’s been helping.”
Rohanna hit 9-of-13 fairways and 15-of-18 greens in regulation, but needed 34 putts in the first round. She had two bogeys on both the front and back, two birdies on her back nine and a third on her front nine.
