Rohanna looks to carry momentum into 2nd round

Rachel Rohanna looks to continue her late-round momentum into the second round as she seeks to make the cut in the Shoprite LPGA Classic presented by Acer.

The Waynesburg Central graduate closed with two birdies in the final three holes in Friday’s first round to finish with a 2-over 73.

The anticipated cut after Saturday’s second round is 1-under-par.

Rohanna said the big issue was missing the fairway off the tee.

“The driver has just not been my friend the last two weeks. I considered just leaving it in the hotel room (Saturday), but we went out this afternoon and I think I got it straightened out,” explained Rohanna. “We worked out a few kinks after the round. Hopefully, I be hitting more fairways tomorrow.”

She hit 7-of-14 fairways and 10-of-18 greens in regulation. Rohanna needed 31 putts to close out the first round.

Rohanna had three bogeys and six pars to play the front nine in 3-over 40, but the late birdies helped her post a 1-under 33 on the back nine.

“It was very frustrating to not give myself good opportunities to hit the ball close. The rough is pretty thick so hitting into it was definitely going to make pars hard,” said Rohanna. “My 3-wood was fine today, so I should’ve been hitting it on the holes that driver wasn’t necessary.”

“But, it’s hard to be that disciplined especially when your caddy has confidence in you,” she said with a laught. “But, like I said, I think a little swing tweak is going to help, and if I can keep it in the fairways and get some putts to fall then hopefully I can post a decent score.”
