Copperheads hit 3 first-inning HRs in 10-0 win over AMD Industries

By Jonathan Guth, For The Greene County Messenger 2 min read

Carmichaels hit three home runs in an eight-run first inning, and that was more than enough offense for Tyler Delval in the Copperheads’ 10-0 victory over AMD Industries in five innings last Thursday in Fayette County Baseball League play at Carmichaels High School.

The three-time defending FCBL Champions have picked off where they left off last year in starting the season at 4-0.

“This was our fourth game in five days,” Carmichaels manager Dickie Krause said. “I wasn’t sure how we were going to play. It is the first part of the season and our college guys have been off for a month, and I have guys that have been out of school. To jump on them early was big for us. We have not hit a ton of home runs the past couple of season despite the success we’ve had.”

Delval improved to 1-0 this year after surrendering three hits, all singles, in five innings. The game was called due to the 10-run mercy rule. Delval had seven strikeouts and walked one.

“This was a good first week,” Krause said. We got through it in nice shape and the pitching did well. Tyler threw a nice five innings. He hadn’t played in the County League since 2016.”

Delval helped his own cause with a three-run homer in the first. Teammate Brody Bonadio had a two-run blast and Chuck Gasti’s solo shot was part of six of the eight runs for Carmichaels in the first. The Copperheads scored one in the second and one in the third.

Gasti added an RBI single and was 2-for-3. Teammates Brock Bonadio and Luke Robinson had one double apiece.

Dylan Shields took the loss, but had two of AMD’s three hits.
