Rohanna in 25th place entering final round
Rachel Rohanna shot an even-par 72 in Saturday’s second round to make the cut at the Island Resort Championship.
The Waynesburg Central graduate opened the day in 25th place with a score of 2-under par and that’s where she stands entering Sunday’s final round. She has a two-round total of 2-under 142.
Rohanna opened on No. 10 and carded nine pars to go out in even-par 36.
She birdied No. 2, her 11th hole, to move to 3-under for the tournament, but lost two strokes with back-to-back bogeys on the next two holes.
“Well, one was a par-3. I hit in a bunker and had a difficult shot. I hit it to about 10 feet, but I missed it,” Rohanna said of the first bogey. “The next hole, I hit in high grass, but thought I had a decent lie. The grass just grabbed my club head, though, and I pulled it about 15 yards left of the pin. I hit a good chip to about six feet and missed it.”
Rohanna birdied her 17th hole to pull to even-par for the round.
She hit 9-of-14 fairways and 15-of-18 greens in regulation, but had 33 putts. Rohanna needed 29 in her 2-under round.
“I’m just not matching my lines and pace consistently. I lipped out three or four putts today and had a ton skin the edge. I know I’m hitting my lines, so it’s just a matter of having that perfect pace to get them to break into the hole,” Rohanna said of her play on the green.
But, Rohanna remains optimistic for her chances to move up the leaderboard in the final 18 holes.
“If I can just get putts to fall!,” Rohanna said with emphasis. “I think 5-under, 7-under is out there.
“I made some good putts today, so I’m looking forward to making more tomorrow.”
Louise Stahle pulled into the top spot on the leaderboard heading into the final round at 10-under 134.
