Rohanna surges up the leaderboard
Rachel Rohanna started Friday’s second round of the IOA Invitational in 105th place, but finished in a tie for ninth place after posting a 7-under 65.
The Waynesburg Central graduate opened with a 4-over 76 in Thursday’s first round. The 65 is the low round of the tournament after 36 holes.
Rohanna sits five strokes behind leader Ingrid Gutierrez Nunez.
Rohanna had one birdie and one eagle (on her final hole) in the first round, but finished with two double bogeys and three bogeys.
She turned those numbers around on Friday with another eagle on No. 18, seven birdies and only two bogeys. Her birdie on No. 2 (her 11th hole) pulled her to even for the round.
Rohanna closed with three birdies in the final seven holes.
“I just had that flatstick going!,” Rohanna said with emphasis. “I made everything I looked at.”
After 31 putts in the first round, Rohanna pared the number on the green to 25 in the second 18 holes. She also hit 10-of-18 fairways and 13-of-18 greens in regulation.
Rain is expected to hit Atlanta National Golf Club in Milton, Ga., Saturday, so the field will tee off both sides. Rohanna is scheduled for 8:43 a.m. off No. 1.
