Rohanna slips a bit in IOA Invitational final round

By Jim Downey, For The Greene County Messenger 2 min read

Rachel Rohanna was unable to duplicate her stellar second round Saturday, closing the IOA Invitational with a 3-over 75.

The Waynesburg Central graduate finished in 30th place at 3-over 216 after opening the third round in ninth place after carding a 7-under 65 in Friday’s second round.

Maria Parra won a four-player playoff on the fourth hole of sudden death for the title. Parra, Leona Maguire, Ssu-Chia Cheng and Madison Pressel all finished with a three-round total of 6-under 210.

Rohanna moved from 105th at the end of the first round to ninth entering the final round, but was unable to maintain the momentum over the final 18 holes.

She had a double bogey-5 and eight pars on the front to go out in 2-over 38. Rohanna opened the back with a birdie, but finished with two bogeys and six pars to play the final nine holes in 1-over 37.

“I couldn’t put much together, then in the last few holes I realized I had the wrong head covers on my fairway woods and hit a few wrong clubs off the tee. So, that probably cost me one or two shots,” said Rohanna.

The Symetra Tour tournament was a roller coaster ride for Rohanna with two over-par rounds sandwiched around a 65.

“It’s pretty frustrating,” said Rohanna, adding, “Yeah, for sure, (she’s happy with the way she played), especially after the first round. I’m just happy to make the third round and make some money.”

Rohanna needed 32 putts in the final round after just 25 in the second round. She hit 12-of-14 fairways and 12-of-18 greens in regulation.

She remains on the Symetra Tour with stops in Charlotte and Alabama before preparing for her third appearance in the U.S. Women’s Open in late May.
