Rohanna advances to final round

By Jim Downey, For The Greene County Messenger 2 min read

Rachel Rohanna shot an even-par round Thursday to make the cut into the final day of the Symetra Classic at River Run Country Club.

The Waynesburg Central graduate finished with 72 in the second round after opening with a 3-over 75 on Wednesday. Rohanna is tied for 36th entering today’s final round with a two-day total of 147.

Rohanna opened the second round on the back nine and promptly birdied the first hole. She moved to 1-over for the round with a birdie four holes later, but gave both strokes back with bogeys on two of the final four holes.

Rohanna bogeyed her 11th and 12th holes to go to 5-over for the tournament, but back-to-back birdies pulled her back to even for the round.

“It was a bit of a struggle. The pin placements were tough and the greens were fast, but I hung in there,” said Rohanna. “If it can get some shots close and make some putts, (the final round) should be a good day.”

Rohanna hit only 6-of-14 fairways, but 14-of-18 greens in regulation. She needed 32 putts after 34 in the first round.

Stephanie Na, Leona Maguire, Eun Jeong Seong and Fatima Fernandez Cano share the lead at 5-under 139 heading into the final round.
