Rohanna moves up the leaderboard

By Jim Downey, For The Greene County Messenger 2 min read

Rachel Rohanna shot back-to-back rounds of 4-under 67 to move up the leaderboard in the LPGA Q Series at Pinehurst No. 6.

The Waynesburg Central graduate posted a bogey-free round in last Friday’s third round with 14 pars and four birdies. Rohanna carded six birdies in Saturday’s fourth round with two bogeys, including a bogey on the final hole.

Rohanna had actually pulled to even-par for the tournament before the round-closing bogey. She shot 74 in the first round and ballooned a bit in the second round with a 77.

“Definitely my iron shots and putting,” Rohanna said of the difference in the last two rounds. “I had two bogeys today, but just made a few more putts and hit the ball a little better into the greens.”

The eight-round qualifying tournament took a few days off before the final four rounds resumed on Pinehurst No. 9 Thursday, running through Saturday.

Rohanna didn’t feel the break would affect her solid play of the past two rounds.

“No, definitely not. It’s just like any other tournament, if you have a good one, carry over to the next one. The little rest will feel great, too! It was a long walk golf course and pretty hilly, too,” said Rohanna.
