Rohanna has top-20 finish in Guardian Championship

By Jim Downey, For The Greene County Messenger 2 min read

Rachel Rohanna was relieved she had a solid final round in the Guardian Championship Sunday, closing with a 3-under 69.

The Waynesburg Central graduate tied for 20th place in the Symetra Tour event in Prattsville, Ala., with 5-under 211, winning $2,138 for her efforts.

Laura Restrepo finished first with a three-day total of 14-under 208, taking home the winner’s share of $26,250.

“I finally got things going,” said Rohanna. “I played so well today. Again, it could’ve been so much lower, but I’ve learned not to complain with 68 (to) 72 scores.”

Rohanna had five birdies and two bogeys in the final round, as she rebounded from 2-over 74 in the opening round with back-to-back under-par rounds. She had six birdies and two bogeys in the second round.

Rohanna was all over the greens throughout the three rounds, hitting 16-of-18 in regulation, as she had in the first round. She found 17 greens in the second round.

Rohanna hit 12-of-14 fairways in the final round and needed 33 putts, her average for the week.

Rohanna was pleased with the way she struck the ball, from tee to green.

“Yes, very much so,” responded Rohanna when asked if she was satisfied with the way she played. “I couldn’t have hit my driver any better than I did all week, and putted really well, too.”

The Symetra Tour turns to Florida for its final two weeks. The IOA Golf Classic is this week in Longwood, Fla., with the Symetra Tour Championship in Daytona Beach, Fla., starting on Thursday, Oct. 3, to close out the season.
