Rohanna shoots 2-under in opening round
Rachel Rohanna hit a bump late in her round, but the Waynesburg Central graduate still shot 2-under 69 Friday in the opening round of the IOA Golf Classic.
Starting on the 10th hole, Rohanna had four birdies and a bogey to go out in 3-under 33.
She moved to 4-under in the first round with a birdie on No. 1, her first hole on the back nine. However, she dropped a couple stroke with a bogey-6 on her 17th hole.
Rohanna played her back nine in 1-over 36.
“I played really well today. This is not my favorite course and I hit some very good shots all day, And, I made some great putts for par and birdie,” said Rohanna, who is tied for 19th place entering the second round.
Rohanna now has three straight under-par rounds dating back to last week’s Guardian Championship.
“My game has been feeling good all year, but I’m finally getting some second shots closer which is taking a lot of pressure off my putter,” said Rohanna.
Sophia Popov, Holly Clyburn and Marta Sanz Barrio all shot 7-under 64 for a share of the first round lead. The projected cut is 1-over.
