While this article does not endorse or disapprove of Halloween and the associated imagery it projects, there are truly frightening words that emanate from Scripture that aren’t just seasonal, but eternal. Let the reader know, you have been warned. All NIV.

Acts 5:1-11 – The story of how Ananias and Sapphira lying about land they sold and gifting all the money to the church. When confronted about lying they fell dead and great fear seized the whole church.

Matthew 7:21-23 – “Not everyone who says to me, “Lord, Lord,” Will enter the kingdom of Heaven, but only the one who does the will of my Father who is in heaven. Many will say to me on that day, “Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name and in your name drive out demons and, in your name, perform miracles?” Then I will tell them plainly, “I never knew you. Away from me, you evildoers!”

Matthew 10:28 – “Do not be afraid of those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul. Rather, be afraid of the One who can destroy both soul and body in hell.”

Matthew 12:32 – “Anyone who speaks a word against the Son of Man will be forgiven, but anyone who speaks against the Holy Spirit will not be forgiven, either in this age or in the age to come.”

Matthew 13:41-42 – “The Son of Man will send out his angels, and they will weed out of his kingdom everything that causes sin and all who do evil. They will throw them into the blazing furnace, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.”

Matthew 24:4-13 – Jesus answered, “Watch out that no one deceives you. For many will come in my name, claiming, “I am the Messiah,” and will deceive many. You will hear of wars and rumors of wars but see to it that you are not alarmed. Such things must happen, but the end is still to come. Nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. There will be famines and earthquakes in various places. All these are the beginning of birth pains. Then you will be handed over to be persecuted and put to death, and you will be hated by all nations because of me. At that time many will turn away from the faith and will betray and hate each other, and many false prophets will appear and deceive many people.”

Hebrews 10:26-27 – If we deliberately keep on sinning after we have received the knowledge of truth, no sacrifice for sins is left, but only a fearful expectation of judgment and of raging fire that will consume the enemies of God.

James 4:17 – “If anyone, then, knows the good they ought to do and doesn’t do it, it is sin for them.”

Revelations 3:15-16 – “I know your deeds, that you are neither cold nor hot. I wish you were either one or the other! So, because you are lukewarm – neither hot nor cold – I am about to spit you out of my mouth.”

Revelations 14:9-11 – “A third angel followed them and said in a loud voice, “If anyone worships the beast and itĢƵ image and receives its mark on their forehead or on their hand, they, too, will drink the wine of GodĢƵ fury, which has been poured full strength into the cup of his wrath. They will be tormented with burning sulfur in the presence of the holy angels and of the Lamb. And the smoke of their torment will rise for ever and ever. There will be no rest day or night for those who worship the beast and its image, or for anyone who receives the mark of his name.”

Revelations 20:15 – “Anyone whose name was not found written in the book of life was thrown into the lake of fire.”

Revelations 22:18-19 – “I warn everyone who hears the words of the prophecy of this scroll: If anyone adds anything to them, God will add to that person the plagues described in this scroll. And if anyone takes words away from this scroll of prophecy, God will take away from that person any share in the tree of life and in the Holy City, which are described in this scroll.”
