A Waynesburg man is facing multiple charges following allegations that he assaulted a man by striking him numerous times during a domestic dispute with his ex-wife at a home in Franklin Township.

Thad T. McGilton, 26, is facing one felony count each of aggravated assault and burglary, a misdemeanor count of simple assault and two summary counts of harassment.

He was arraigned Feb. 17 before Magisterial District Judge Lee Watson, following the incident that occurred at a home at East View Court.

According to the criminal complaint, police responded to a domestic dispute at the home at 1:20 a.m. Police said the suspect’s ex-wife, Shelby McGilton, reported that she was lying on the couch while Clinton Porter was in another room sleeping. Police said McGilton came inside and asked his ex-wife why Porter was there and shoved her, the complaint states.

Thad McGilton allegedly went to where Porter, whose age and address were not listed, was sleeping and began hitting him.

Shelby McGilton said she yelled at her ex-husband to stop, but he continued hitting Porter until she said she was calling 911. Court paperwork indicated McGilton then left the home.

Porter told police he was sleeping when he was assaulted, and estimated Thad McGilton hit him with an unknown object between 20 and 40 times; police said Porter sustained severe injuries to the left eye, causing severe bruising, swelling and lacerations, the complaint states.

Porter was transported by ambulance to Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown, W.Va., for further evaluation, police said.

Following arraignment, Thad McGilton was released from custody after posting $30,000 straight bail.

As of press time, he was scheduled to appear before Watson on March 3 for his preliminary hearing.
