Lady Raiders ride Miller’s hat trick to 5-1 win

Ella Miller scored a hat trick and assisted on a goal as Waynesburg Central toppled visiting Monessen, 5-1, in a Section 2-A girls soccer match Monday night.

Rylei Rastoka scored a goal and had two assists for the Lady Raiders (5-2-0, 7-2-0). Kaley Rohanna scored a goal, and Lake Litwiniovich and Brynn Kirby finished with an assist each.

Samantha Saylor scored for the Lady Greyhounds (1-5-1, 3-6-1).

Thursday, Sept. 21

Albert Gallatin 241, Jefferson-Morgan 242 — The Colonials edged the visiting Rockets for a non-section boys golf victory at Duck Hollow Golf Club.

Trent Clemmer (47), Hayden Metts (48), Caeden Williams (43), Brooke Snyder (55), and Mikayla Hammond (58) scored for Albert Gallatin (5-8).

Brock Bayles fired 39 for Jefferson-Morgan (5-9). Urijah Teasdale (46), Clay Wilson (47), Brendan Wood (51), and Dayten Marion (59) rounded out the scoring.

Boys soccer

McGuffey 1, Waynesburg Central 0 — Nate Klerr scored the Section 3-AA match’s only goal early in the second half as the Highlanders returned home with the win.

Waynesburg Central goalkeeper Jobe McCartney made 10 saves. McGuffey’s Sam Stout turned aside six shots.

Girls volleyball

Brownsville 3, Waynesburg Central 1 — The Lady Raiders won the third set to stay alive, but the Lady Falcons responded with a victory in the fourth set to take the Section 3-AA road match.

Brownsville won the first two sets, 25-13, 25-20, and the final set, 25-20.

Brownsville was led by Mackenzie Wade (14 assists, 5 service points, 7 digs), Caylee Balabon (6 kills, 15 service points, 3 aces), Skyler Gates (13 kills, 7 blocks), Payton Evanchak (10 service points, 3 aces), and Ashley Evanchak (7 digs).

West Greene 3, Mapletown 1 — The Lady Pioneers won the final three sets for a Section 2-A home victory.

Mapletown (4-2, 5-2) won the opening set, 26-24. West Greene answered with set wins of 25-17, 25-17 and 25-15.

Mapletown’s stats leaders were Isabella Garnek (8 kills), Miranda Wise (8 kills), Brianna Ashton (28 digs), Marley Seward (13 digs), and Bailey Rafferty (21 assists, 12 digs).

California 3, Carmichaels 1 — The Lady Mikes stayed alive by winning the third set, 26-24, but California secured the Section 2-A match with a 25-21 victory in the fourth set.

California won the first two sets, 25-23, 25-21.

Azzy Colditz (15 assists, 4 kills, 3 digs, 2 blocks), Ava Bojtos (10 assists, 4 aces), Nina Conte (11 kills, 2 aces, 2 digs), Raegan Gillen (6 kills, 3 aces, 3 digs), Rakiyah Porter (12 digs, 2 kills), Mady Morton (5 blocks, 4 kills, 2 digs), and Hayley Gibson (3 kills, 2 blocks) led the Lady Trojans to victory.

Carmichaels (1-5, 1-5) received solid performances from Camryn Anderson (15 assists), Chloe Mitchell (10 assists, 18 service points, 3 aces), Bailey Barnyak (10 kills, 17 digs, 6 aces), Pacey Pratt (20 digs, 18 service points, 9 kills), and Ani Cree (8 kills, 20 digs).

Wednesday, Sept. 20

Waynesburg Central 200, Beth-Center 244 — The Raiders needed to close the season with a Section 3-AA victory and did just that with a road win against Beth-Center at Chippewa Golf Course.

The Raiders (9-3, 10-3) finished in second place to secure a WPIAL team playoff berth. Beth-Center goes to 0-12 in the section and 3-13 overall.

Joe Phillips had medalist honors for Waynesburg with 3-over 38. Braden Benke and Joe Kirsch both shot 40. Rykan Gustafson and Derek Turcheck both finished with 41.

Sonya Peterson was the low golfer for the Bulldogs with 46. Karson Keys and Nick Wrenshaw both shot 49. Luke Amon and Parker Amos each had 50.

Girls soccer

Waynesburg Central 4, South Allegheny 0 — Ella Miller scored two goals and assisted on another to lead the Lady Raiders to a Section 2-A victory.

Rylei Rastoka and Kaley Rohanna scored one goal apiece for Waynesburg (4-2-0, 6-2-0). Keeper Peyton Cowell preserved the shutout.

The Lady Gladiators go to 3-3-0 in the section and 6-3-0 overall.

Tuesday, Sept. 19

Mount Pleasant 5, Waynesburg Central 0 — The Vikings put the Section 3-AA boys soccer match away with four goals in the second half.

Aiden Johnson scored the first goal midway through the first half.

Austin Ulery, Jarrett Garn, Aiden Johnson and Ryan Karfelt scored in the second half for the Vikings (6-1-0, 6-2-0). Ayden Gross had two assists and Bruce Gamble set up one goal.

The Raiders go to 1-6-0 in the section and 2-7-0 overall.

Girls volleyball

Mapletown 3, Geibel Catholic 0 — The Lady Maples swept past the Lady Gators for a Section 2-A road victory.

Mapletown (4-1, 5-1) won in straight sets, 25-12, 25-8 25-2.

The Lady Maples’ Bailey Rafferty had a double-double with 21 assists and 11 aces. Brianna Ashton (10 digs, 4 aces), Miranda Wise (10 kills), and Rowan Eisinger (4 kills) also contributed to the victory.

Frazier 3, Carmichaels 0 — The Lady Commodores downed the visiting Lady Mikes for a Section 2-A victory.

Frazier won by the scores, 25-15, 25-23, 25-19.

Carmichaels (1-4, 1-4) was led by Camryn Anderson (8 assists, 10 service points), Chloe Mitchell (7 assists), Bailey Barnyak (2 aces, 5 kills, 17 digs, 14 service points), Ani Cree (4 blocks), and Pacey Pratt (8 kills, 15 digs, 3 blocks).

Frazier (5-0, 6-1) had strong performances by Allie Monack (6 kills, 8 assists), Grace Vaughn (6 kills, 3 blocks), Gracen Hartman (18 assists), Molly Yaugh (15 digs), Addison Hiles (7 digs), and Maddie Salisbury (11 service points, 3 blocks).

California 3, West Greene 1 — The Lady Pioneers tied the Section 2-A match in the second set and the Lady Trojans responded by winning the next two sets for the victory.

California had set wins of 25-16, 25-21 and 25-18.

California’s stats leaders were Ava Bojtos (12 assists), Azzy Colditz (9 assists, 4 blocks, 3 kills), Raegan Gillen (12 kills, 3 aces), Nina Conte (6 kills, 5 aces, 4 digs), Rakiyah Porter (12 digs, 2 aces), Mady Morton (3 blocks), and Haley Gibson (3 blocks).

Boys golf

Carmichaels 197, Jefferson-Morgan 221 — The Mikes remained undefeated with a victory over the Rockets at Carmichaels Golf Club.

The Mikes improve to 11-0 in the section and 12-0 overall. The Rockets go to 4-8 in the section and 5-8 overall.

Carmichaels Mason Lapana had medalist honors with 2-under 35. Dustin Hastings shot 37 and Liam Lohr finished with 39. Dominic Colarusso (40) and Patrick Holaren (46) rounded out the scoring.

Brock Bayles was the low man for Jefferson-Morgan with 39. Urijah Teasdale (41), Clay Wilson (47), Grant Hathaway (51), and Brayden Ellsworth (43) closed out the scoring.
