Lawmakers, farmers and agriculture advocates gathered at the state Capitol last week for the second annual “Blessing of the Balers,” along with “May is Beef Month” celebration. The event was led by state Rep. Bud Cook, R-West Pike Run, and modeled after an event first held in Greene County in 2021 to pray for a productive hay season. The event, which also raises awareness of the importance of the agriculture industry, was co-hosted this year by the Pennsylvania Beef Council, in cooperation with the Pennsylvania Farm Bureau, Pennsylvania Livestock Association, Pennsylvania Cattlemen’s Association and Center for Beef Excellence. The Rev. Donald Wilson of Greene County offered the blessing, while state Secretary of Agriculture Russell Redding was a featured speaker, along with Duff George of the Pennsylvania Beef Council and Chris Hoffman of the Pennsylvania Farm Bureau.
