Local roundup: Copperheads fall to M&R Transit
Garrett Myers and Braeden O’Brien combined on a four-hitter and Andino Vecchiolla drove in all three runs as M&R Transit’s defeated visiting Carmichaels, 3-1, in Fayette County Baseball League action on Monday.
M&R Transit leapfrogged Carmichaels into first place with a 7-3 record. The Copperheads go to 5-1-1.
Myers earned the win after allowing one earned run on two hits with three walks and four strikeouts. O’Brien picked up the save after he gave up two hits in two innings with no walks and three strikeouts.
Vecchiolla drove in the first run with a bases-loaded walk in the bottom of the third inning. He brought two runners home in the bottom of the fifth inning with a single.
Kaleb Scott had a pair of singles and Santino Marra finished with a double and single for M&R Transit.
Jimmy Sadler drove in the lone run for the Copperheads with a single in the top of the sixth inning.
Forrest Havanis took the loss after he allowed one run on no hits in three innings. He walked four and struck out three. Ryan Opfer followed with 1.2 innings in relief, allowing two earned runs on three hits with two walks and four strikeouts. Joe Sabolek closed out the game by allowing two hits with no walks and two strikeouts.

Carmichaels 10, WBAC 1 – Gianni Cantini earned the win and drove in three runs in Carmichaels’ 10-1 Fayette County Baseball League victory at WBAC.
Cantini had a run-scoring single in the top of the seventh inning and a two-run single in the third inning. He allowed one unearned run on three hits with two walks and eight strikeouts in 5.1 innings.
Drake Long finished the game, allowing three hits in 1.2 innings with no walks and a strikeout.
Carmichaels’ Nick Pegg had a two-run double in the top of the seventh inning.AJ Vanata and Hunter Mamie doubled in the win, and Jimmy Sadler, Noah Mildren and Nick Ricco all had two hits.
Colby Simmons finished with two hits and drove in the run for WBAC.
