Gina Tedrow tossed a one-hit shutout with 18 strikeouts as Waynesburg Central rolled over Westerville-South of Ohio, 9-0, at Pigeon Forge, Tennessee, in non-section softball action on Monday.

Tedow also had three RBIs with two doubles and a single and Taylor Sibert knocked in two runs as Waynesburg (1-3) picked up its first win of the season.

Baseball

Carmichaels 7, Jefferson-Morgan 6 – The Mikes opened Section 1-A play with an extra-inning victory over the visiting Rockets.

Robbie Wilson-Jones drove in the winning run with a double in the bottom of the eighth inning. Liam Lohr also had an RBI double for Carmichaels (1-0, 2-0).

Deakyn Dehoet was 4-for-4 with a double and three singles, plus two RBI, for Jefferson-Morgan (0-1, 2-1). Drew Adams added a run-scoring double.

California 16, Mapletown 0 – Caden Monticelli didn’t allow a hit and California exploded for 14 runs in the first inning as the Trojans opened Section 1-A play with a three-inning win against visiting Mapletown.

Monticelli struck out eight and walked two.

Kaden Weston, Kris Weston and Chase Cicchitto all doubled for the Trojans. California benefited from 11 walks.

Waynesburg Central 10, Greensburg Salem 3 – Derek Turcheck led the Raiders with three RBI in a Section 4-AAA victory over the Golden Lions.

Tyler Groves picked up the win and had three hits for Waynesburg (1-0, 2-0). Dom Rosensteel had two hits and drove in two runs for Greensburg Salem (0-1, 0-2).

Avella 3, West Greene 1 – Bryce Wright and Brian Martos combined on a four-hitter as the host Eagles defeated the Pioneers in a Section 1-A game.

Lane Allison drove in the Pioneers’ lone run with a first-inning single that brought in Johnny Lampe.

Avella took the lead in the bottom of the second on RBIs from Brayden Fuller on an infield hit and Cam Ullom on a pop fly to shallow right field that dropped in for a single.

“We were right there but made a couple mistakes defensively and that cost us,” West Greene coach Lenny Lohr said. “But we’re not going to get down about it. It was a well-pitched game. I thought we pitched better than the results.”

Wright struck out eight and walked three while allowing one run in five innings to earn the win. Martos finished with two scoreless innings for the save.

Isaiah Bradick doubled for the Eagles.

Losing pitcher Hayden Hamilton tossed a five-hitter with two walks and two strikeouts while allowing one earned run.

“We just got back yesterday from a four-day trip to Virginia,” Lohr said. “We played some pretty good competition down there and really we came together as a team pretty well. We just didn’t get enough timely hits today.”

Friday, March 22

Carmichaels 3, Albert Gallatin 1 – Bailey Barnhart allowed two hits and struck out 15 in the Lady Mikes’ non-section softball victory over the visiting Lady Colonials.

Carmichaels (2-0) led 1-0 through four innings and added a pair of runs in the bottom of the fifth inning.

Kaitlyn Waggett and Ali Jacobs both had run-scoring singles for the Lady Mikes.

Avery Walls took the loss, allowing two hits with six strikeouts and five walks. Ashley Metts and Gabriella Delorenzo singled.

Belle Vernon 12, Waynesburg Central 3 – The visiting Lady Leopards pounded out 16 hits for a non-section win at Waynesburg.

Gracie Sokol had three singles, a double and three RBI for Belle Vernon (2-0). Mailey Hayes finished with two singles, a home run and two RBI. Lauren VanDivner added a home run and single, and drove in four runs.

Winning pitcher Talia Ross allowed two earned runs on nine hits with 10 strikeouts and a walk. She also had three singles and an RBI.

Avery Davis had a pair of doubles for the Lady Raiders (0-3). Bri Kerr and Gina Tedrow both finished with a pair of singles. Kerr drove in a run.

Charleroi 14, Mapletown 3 – Sofia Celaschi drove in two runs and struck out six to lead the Lady Cougars to a non-section road win.

Celaschi finished with a pair of doubles and a single.

Ariahna Blouse had two singles, a double and four RBI for Charleroi (3-0). Emma Stefanick drove in three runs. Riley Jones added a double and two RBI.

Isabella Garneck doubled and Treslee Wattson tripled for the Lady Maples (0-1).

Franklin Regional 4, Jefferson-Morgan 3 – Toryn Fulton and Ciara Camacho hit home runs as the Lady Panthers edged Jefferson-Morgan for a non-section victory.

Addyson Teagarden had a double and Isabelle Bazzoli tripled for the Lady Rockets (0-1).

Baseball

Jefferson-Morgan 3, Beth-Center 1 – The Rockets scored all three runs in the bottom of the third inning for a non-section victory over the visiting Bulldogs.

John Woodward drove in the first run of the third inning with a double. Deakyn Dehoet then brought home the winning run with a single.

Brock Bayles started and pitched five innings for the win. He allowed one unearned run on one hit with nine strikeouts and six walks.

Brayden Ellsworth picked up the save for the Rockets (2-0) with two scoreless innings. He allowed one hit with two strikeouts and two walks in his first pitching effort.

Drew Adams led Jefferson-Morgan with three singles.

Ethan Varesko doubled for the Bulldogs (1-1) and struck out four in 2.1 innings for relief. Colton Bane took the loss.

Waynesburg Central 5, Bentworth 1 – Grant Pack drove in three runs to lead the Raiders to a season-opening, non-section win over the Bearcats.

Gavin Linton-Rush had a double for Bentworth (0-1).

Thursday, March 21

Beth-Center 11, Mapletown 1 – The Bulldogs scored four runs in the bottom of the first inning for a non-section baseball victory over the visiting Maples.

Beth-Center led 9-1 after three innings and invoked the mercy rule with two runs in the bottom of the fifth inning.

Jackson Nopwaskey earned the win for Beth-Center. He struck out 11 and walked three in four innings of work. Nopwaskey also doubled and drove in two runs.

The Bulldogs’ Brody Bebout pitched a scoreless fifth inning with a strikeout.

Ethan Varesko was a triple shy of hitting for the cycle. Eli Wright and Chase Bebout both had two RBI in the victory.

Spencer Yeager took the loss for Mapletown.

Wednesday, March 20

Jefferson-Morgan 4, Trinity Christian (W.Va.) – Joey BairĢƵ two-run single in the bottom of the third inning broke a 1-1 tie and Brock Bayles made the advantage stand in Jefferson-MorganĢƵ non-section baseball victory over visiting Trinity Christian.

Bair drove home Bayles and Brenton Barnhart, who had singled, for a 3-1 lead. Bair scored on a fielderĢƵ choice.

The Rockets (1-0) led 1-0 in the bottom of the first inning, but the visitors tied the game in the top of the second inning.

Bayles pitched the final three innings for the win. He didn’t allow a hit and struck out three. Bayles and Drew Adams both finished with two singles.

John Woodward started and lasted four innings. He allowed one run on two hits with eight strikeouts and two walks.

Trinity Christian starting pitcher Brock Shuba allowed one run on three hits with eight strikeouts and four walks.

Softball

West Greene 15, Monessen 1 – The Lady Pioneers needed five innings to win their home opener against the Lady Greyhounds.

Payton Gilbert allowed three hits, struck out eight and didn’t walk a batter. She also led the offense with three hits and four RBI.

Marissa Tharp tripled and scored three runs for the Lady Pioneers (1-2). Kendra Tharp had a double and drove in a run. Ali Goodwin, Ella Scott and Kylee Davis all scored twice.

Joey Hurst was the losing pitcher. She allowed seven hits, struck out four and walked five, and scored MonessenĢƵ lone run. Grace Clingenpeel tripled for the visitors.

Carmichaels 4, McGuffey 2 – Bailey Barnyak struck out 16 and Ali Jacobs hit a home run and had two RBI in the Lady Mikes’ non-section road victory.

McGuffey scored two runs on Katie GrimmĢƵ double in the bottom of the fifth inning.

Carmichaels (1-0) responded with a run in the top of the sixth inning and then rallied for the win with three runs in the top of the seventh inning.

The Lady Mikes’ Carys McConnell had a double, two singles and two RBI.

McKenna Crothers struck out 11 for McGuffey (1-1).
