Waynesburg advances 5 wrestlers to WPIAL tournament
Waynesburg Central had four medalists and one champion on Saturday in the Class 3A South Sectional at South Fayette High School with each advancing to the WPIAL Individual Wrestling Championships.
The Raiders’ Jake Stephenson earned a 4-1 decision over Canon-McMillan’s Bryce Collins for the championship at 189. Teammate Brock Evans was runner-up at 160. The Raiders’ Floyd Huff (4th at 127) and Roan Tustin (6th at 215) also qualified for the WPIAL Class 3A individual tournament.
West Greene’s Noah Collins and Colin Whyte won championships at the south sectional. Collins earned a fall in 4:55 at 121 and Whyte an 11-0 major decision at 285.
Teammates Levi Yeater (5th at 152) and Hayden Hamilton (6th at 189) also qualified for the district tournament.
Beth-Center’s Malachi Peak won the championship at 189. The Bulldogs’ Alex Medlen (114) and Noah Layhue (172) were second.
Mason Wright was third at 133 and Homer Hedlee took fourth at 215.
Jefferson-Morgan didn’t have any champions crowned, but three Rockets were in the finals, as Brayden Hanning (107), James Dulaney (127) and Alex Palko (160) were runners-up.
Johnny Gilbert was third at 139 and Caleb Dulaney fourth at 114. Connor Pinchok placed fifth at 121.
