West GreeneÄ¢¹½ÊÓÆµ Whyte wins WPIAL Class 2A title
Frazier’s Jackson Angelo and West Greene’s Colin Whyte were able to get over the hump and win a WPIAL championship in their third trip to the district tournament.
The junior duo earned decisions in the finals, as Angelo recorded a 10-6 win over Burrell’s Isaac Lacinski at 172, and Whyte had a 10-4 triumph over Henry Barbisch at 285 in Saturday’s action at Chartiers Valley High School.
The Commodores had three in the finals, but Jonah Erdely (152) and Ryan Celaschi (160) had to settle for second place.
The top eight in each weight class advanced to the PIAA Class 2A Southwestern Regional this upcoming Friday and Saturday at Altoona Area School District Field House.
Mount Pleasant’s Tristan Wtorkiewicz finished third at 145, and Jefferson-Morgan’s Alex Palko earned the bronze at 160.
Beth-Center’s Noah Layhue (172) and Malachi Peak (189) made it to the podium in third place. Teammates Alex Medlen (114) and Mason Wright (133) were fourth.
The Rockets’ Bayden Hanning was fourth at 107.
The Pioneers’ Noah Collins was fifth at 121.
Southmoreland’s Kaden Shannon was also fifth, but at 215.
J-M’s James Dulaney (127) and the Scottie’s Landon Delara (172) were sixth.
The Rockets’ Caleb Dulaney was seventh at 114.
The Vikings’ Peyton Schaum placed seventh at 285. Teammate Stephen Predajna was eighth at 160.
