Robbie Wilson-Jones rang up 14 points, six steals and four rebounds as host Carmichaels defeated Mapletown, 56-25, in the first round of the Lions Club Coal Bowl holiday tournament Friday night.

Carmichaels led 19-6, 31-15 and 50-19 at the quarter breaks.

Steve Lewis added 11 points, Dayton Reynolds followed with nine points and Chase Ankrom came up with four steals for the Mikes (2-5) who won their second in a row after defeating Burgettstown, 43-39, Monday.

“I think it does wonders for our kids’ confidence,” Carmichaels coach Ian McCombs said. “You could see them play with a different energy. The last two games they’ve been playing their type of game together for four quarters.

“That first win gave us a confidence boost and you could see it in the way they played tonight, guys being more aggressive with the ball, guys looking to make plays. It was good to see, especially in that Burgettstown game, guys able to step up in key moments.”

Lucas Stevenson led Mapletown (0-7) with nine points and Tyler Howard had seven.

In the other boys game, Jefferson-Morgan beat Beth-Center, 56-37, as Jase Bedilion scored a game-high 20 points.

Houston Guesman added 16 points for Jefferson-Morgan (6-2).

Parker Amos led B-C (4-4) with 13 points.

In the girls tournament, Uniontown triumphed over Carmichaels, 48-22, and Waynesburg Central knocked off Jefferson-Morgan, 33-17.

Emily Myers scored 12 points for Uniontown as the Lady Raiders took control with a 20-5 advantage in the third quarter.

Uniontown led 10-4 after one quarter and 22-12 at halftime before pushing the gap out to 42-17 in the third.

Freshman Charley Murtha added 10 points for the Lady Red Raiders (4-4).

Avery Voithofer topped Carmichaels (0-8) in scoring with 10 points.

Peyton Cowell tallied a game-high 15 points in WaynesburgĢƵ win as the Lady Raiders didn’t allow a point in the first half in the victory over the Lady Rockets.

Waynesburg (5-2) led 21-0 at halftime. Avery Davis contributed nine points for the Lady Raiders.

Ava Wood led J-M (0-8) with 10 points.
