Union soars past Lady Rockets into Class A final
Doug Fisher is having the type of run any coach would be jealous of having.
For the last eight years, the coach of Union’s softball team has taken his team to the finals of the WPIAL playoffs.
And this year is no different.
Fisher’s top-seeded Lady Scotties blasted five home runs, including two inside-the-park homers, as they romped over Jefferson-Morgan, 15-0, in a three-inning WPIAL Class A semifinal game last Friday on a chilly afternoon at Montour High School.
Koryann Shannon cracked two home runs and drove in five while Mia Pruehs hit an inside-the-park home run in Union’s six-run first inning. Union (18-2) scored four in the second and five in the third. Trelyn Fisher had the other inside-the-park home run.
“You never know,” said Fisher. “These girls can hit.”
Union now has 44 home runs this season.
“I didn’t know anything about them.” said Fisher of Jefferson-Morgan (10-7). “That’s what I was worried about.”
Karlee Crockard had the lone hit for the Lady Rockets whose only other baserunners were on an error and two walks. Jefferson-Morgan didn’t advance a runner past second base.
“They really hit the ball today,” said J-M head coach Rich Rush. “They are very disciplined.”
Jefferson-Morgan was slated to play West Greene in the third-place consolation game Tuesday at Pleasant Valley Elementary School with the winner advancing to the PIAA tournament.
