Ron Jones, of Brownsville, tees off Friday during Friday's second round of the Fayette County Open at Springdale Golf Club. He carded a 2 over 72 to pull into a tie with first-round leader Jeremy Enslen.

Defending champion Jeremy Enslen left Springdale Golf Course Friday afternoon atop the Fayette County Open leaderboard, but he wasn’t alone, sharing the top spot with Ron Jones.

Enslen was the lone golfer under par after FridayĢƵ opening round at Pleasant Valley Country Club with a 3-under 68, but slipped a bit with a 5-over 75 for a two-round total of 2-over 143. Jones shot a 2-over 72 at Springdale after carding an even-par 71 at Pleasant Valley.

Ten golfers are within five strokes of Enslen and Jones as the county tournament moves to Uniontown Country Club this morning. The fourth and final round will be played Sunday at Duck Hollow Golf Club.

Enslen said he wasn’t able to get anything going in the second round.

“I just didn’t have it today. I didn’t hit enough golf shots,” explained Enslen. “The greens were a big adjustment. They’re slower (at Springdale). The course was set up pretty tight.”

Despite the slip, Enslen acknowledged heĢƵ right in the thick of things.

“I just need to get ready for Uniontown Country Club, and Duck Hollow is my home course,” said Enslen.

Jones said his round wasn’t the purest, but managed to post a good enough score to give him a share of the midpoint lead.

“The back nine got a little erratic. I was striking the ball well. I was saving a lot of pars,” said Jones. “You can get away with hitting the ball left and right here.

“My main problem was getting through Pleasant Valley. I like playing at Uniontown Country Club. I’m happy where I’m going into the weekend.”

Dave Jamison (75-69) and Chris Taylor (73-71) are one stroke behind at 144, and past county champions Pat Calvaresi (77-68) and John Kingora (72-73) stand two shots back at 145.

Zach Rockwell is alone in sixth place at 146, with Scott Bush, Fred David, George Knapp, and Santino Marchitello all at 147. Justin Goletz carded an even-par 70 to move into the mix with a two-round total of 148.
