Dave Jamison of Uniontown tees off on the third hole par3 at Duck Hollow Golf Club during Sunday's final round of the Fayette County Open.

Jeremy Enslen was in effect playing against himself during the fourth and final round of the Fayette County Open when he took to Duck Hollow Golf Course Sunday morning.

Santino Marchitello was five strokes back and, along with Dave Jamison, was in the final threesome along with Enslen.

Enslen overcame a bit of a shaky start to finish with a 1-over 73 for a four-day total of even-par 284 to successfully defend his county golf title.

Marchitello and Jamison both carded 2-over 74 with Marchitello holding onto second place, six strokes back of EnslenĢƵ winning total. Jamison was alone in third place with a 291.

Enslen came in with the mindset of making pars, forcing the field to catch him and not sliding back into the pack.

“I played smart. I was 2-over after three holes. I was struggling a bit,” said Enslen. “I birdied No. 8, and that settled me down. I had birdies on No. 10 and 13. Once I got to even, I just played match play a little bit.

“I had a bad shot on No. 17, but just played for a five (bogey). I just wanted to stay away from big numbers.”

As for his successful defense of the Fayette County Open title, Enslen added, “It feels good. I like finishing on the home course.”

Jamison felt he had his shot early with EnslenĢƵ 2-over start, but was not able to take advantage of the opening.

“I thought I had a chance. I just didn’t make any putts the whole tournament,” explained Jamison. “I wasn’t able to take advantage of my length (off the tee).

“Jeremy is just as solid as it comes. HeĢƵ not coming back to the field.”

MarchitelloĢƵ round ended on a high note because he holed out on No. 18 for eagle, and solo second place. Jamison birdied the final hole, so the eagle turned out to be the difference.

“I had to play off (Enslen),” said Marchitello, whose previous best finish was fifth. “I didn’t want to lose any strokes. I wanted to stay even, not play too crazy.

“I was very pleased with my four days of golf. I had no major mistakes. This was my best finish, by far.”
