Man shot in Uniontown
Uniontown police are investigating after one person was shot in the leg Wednesday night.
Patrolman Thomas Kolencik said an 18-year-old man suffered a single gunshot wound to his upper left thigh as a result of the shooting.
According to Kolencik, the man was outside of 74 Coolspring Street at 9:23 p.m. when the shot was fired.
Kolencik said the man told police that someone in a black car drove up the street, turned around and drove back down the street toward him and fired a single shot.
The man told police he didn’t know he was shot at first and initially thought the person in the car threw a firecracker at him, Kolencik said, adding that the man realized he was shot after his leg started to burn.
Kolencik said a shell casing was recovered at the scene.
Uniontown Fireman’s Ambulance transported the man to the helipad at Uniontown Hospital and he was flown to Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown, W.Va., for medical treatment.
Kolencik said the injury did not appear to be life threatening and that the man was conscious and alert.
The shooting remains under investigation. Anyone with information is asked to call police at 724-430-2929.
