Artisans and musicians to take part in Art on the Yough
?CONNELLSVILLE — Organizers are putting the final touches on a variety of activities taking place this weekend in Yough River Park.
The pavilions and stage at the park will be filled with artisans and musicians as the Fayette County Cultural Trust and its partners host Art on the Yough.
The festivities begin at 11?a.m. on Saturday and noon Sunday and continue until 5?p.m. both days.
The art festival, now in its fourth year, continues to grow, said Michael Edwards, trust president.
“We are very pleased with the participation,” he said. “People stop by and sit and listen to the music or view the variety of artwork that is on display.”
Youngsters, too, have a number of activities to keep them amused.
“With the help of a number of partners, we have been able to add several new features to this yearĢƵ festival,” said Edwards.
The Eberly Foundation will sponsor three musical concerts on Saturday, beginning at noon with Ben Haines and Kortney Jean, followed at 1?p.m. with She Does it Right.
From 3 to 5?p.m., the musical group Friction will perform.
On Sunday, Mac Martin and the Dixie Travelers will perform bluegrass music from 2 to 4?p.m.
Both days, youngsters will have the opportunity to make a variety of items, including feather or flower headbands, paint their own birdhouse, start their own herb garden or make a unique picture frame.
The ChildrenĢƵ Creativity Zone will also allow youngsters to create an animated cartoon with Schmutz Co., a Pittsburgh-based animation company.
The creativity zone is being sponsored by Bud MurphyĢƵ, Rock Starz and the Connellsville Rotary.
Other Art on the Yough sponsors include Pennsylvania Council on the Arts, Highlands Hospital, Janney Mongomery Scott and Kisiel and Associates.
“There will be no shortage of fun for the young and the young at heart,” said Edwards.
Art on the Yough will be held in conjunction with the Connellsville Historical SocietyĢƵ BraddockĢƵ Crossing being held at StewartĢƵ Crossing, adjacent to Yough Park.
