?CONNELLSVILLE — ChildrenĢƵ laughter and music filled Yough River Park Saturday as the Fayette County Cultural Trust hosted Art on the Yough.

While their parents visited booths that featured a variety of artwork, pottery, jewelry and scarves, dozens of youngsters demonstrated their artistic abilities with the painting of birdhouses and creation of feather or flower headbands.

Michael Edwards, trust president, said that with the help of various partners, the yearly activity continues to grow.

“Art on the Yough began as a way to bring arts to the community,” he said. “With our partners, this year we were able to add a variety of activities, including several musical performances.”

Local musicians Ben Haines and Kortney Jean, along with groups She Does it Right and Friction performed Saturday.

Edwards said that the event, being held in conjunction with the Connellsville Area Historical SocietyĢƵ BraddockĢƵ Crossing of the Youghiogheny River, gives attendees a variety of activities.

“The crossing, reenactments and demonstrations give a look back at the areaĢƵ history, while Art on the Yough provides an outlet for our talented musicians and artists,” he said.

Today, Mac Martin and the Dixie Travelers will perform bluegrass music from 2 to 5?p.m. at the park stage.

Youngsters will also be able to start their own herb garden or create a photo frame in the creativity zone, being sponsored by Bud MurphyĢƵ Rock Starz and the Connellsville Rotary.

Other Art on the Yough sponsors include the Eberly Foundation, Pennsylvania Council on the Arts, Highlands Hospital, Janney Mongomery Scott and Kisiel and Associates.

Activities begin at noon.
