A Uniontown man is facing multiple charges after police say he was caught burglarizing a building in Uniontown Tuesday afternoon.

Brian S. Stepanik, 37, was charged with burglary, theft by unlawful taking and receiving stolen property after police allege he stole items owned by Darin Agostini from Uniontown Builders on East Main Street.

Lt. Thomas Kolencik said Agostini arrived at the building around 3 p.m. when he spotted a man, later identified as Stepanik, placing items owned by Agostini into a pickup truck.

Kolencik said Agostini then used his pickup truck to block the exit from the parking lot, called Fayette County 911 reporting the burglary and then confronted Stepanik.

Stepanik told Agostini that he thought the items “were abandoned.”

Kolencik said that Stepanik had placed an industrial vacuum, a package of light bulbs, cleaning supplies and a new package of insulation into the vehicle prior to Agostini’s arrival.

Stepanik will face a preliminary hearing at a later date before Magisterial District Judge Michael M. Metros.
