Uniontown man charged in assault and robbery
A Uniontown man is facing multiple charges after police allege he assaulted and robbed a man while walking near Bailey Park Monday afternoon.
Solomon Stevens, 18, was charged with robbery, simple assault, theft and receiving stolen property.
Officer Eric Hanula said the incident occurred shortly after 4 p.m. near Pennsylvania Avenue.
Hanula said Kai Zhu of Uniontown was walking in the area when he was approached by a man, later identified as Stevens, and two other unidentified men. Zhu told police that Stevens punched him in the face, causing him to fall to the ground.
Once on the ground, Zhu told police that Stevens kicked him in the head and then stole $100 from his wallet, Hanula said.
He said that the incident was witnessed by a man working at a business across the street and that police received a call later in the evening reporting that the suspects had returned to the area.
Hanula said officers found Stevens, and Zhu identified him from a photo lineup.
Stevens was placed in Fayette County Prison on $10,000 straight cash bond.
He will face a preliminary hearing at a later date before Magisterial District Judge Michael Metros.
