An elderly Fayette County woman who was injured in an alleged mugging in South Union Township earlier this year has died.

Authorities said that Mary Yourchik, 82, of North Union Township died Monday, eight months after police say she was beaten and robbed by sisters Brittany Joyce Boyd, 24, and Jenna Shay Boyd, 26.

Fayette County District Attorney Jack R. Heneks Jr. said that his office and state police are requesting an autopsy be conducted to determine the cause of YourchikĢƵ death. He said Monday that, pending the results, additional charges could be filed against the sisters.

Yourchik suffered injuries in the mugging that police allege was committed by the Boyd sisters, both of 303 Easter St. in North Union Township, on March 22 outside Walmart Supercenter.

The sisters are charged with conspiring to assault and rob Yourchik as she was exiting the store.

All initial charges against the duo were bound for Fayette County Court following a preliminary hearing.

YourchikĢƵ daughter, Kathleen, testified at that hearing in September that her motherĢƵ hip was broken in the assault and that she never regained full self-reliance following the incident.

She testified that prior to the robbery, her mother was “an independent 82-year-old woman who took care of all her own affairs” and said that her mother was in good health. A little more than two months after the attack, Kathleen Yourchik testified that her mother had a massive stroke and was later moved into a care home.

State police Trooper Timothy Kirsch said the charges were filed after Brittany Boyd approached Yourchik outside of Walmart, pushed her to the ground and stole her purse.

Witnesses testified that Brittany Boyd also punched and kicked Yourchik during the robbery. She then fled the scene in a vehicle occupied by Jenna Boyd and several children.

Police said the sisters committed the robbery in an attempt to get cash to buy heroin.

Both sisters remain in the county lockup, although Jenna Boyd, who is pregnant, has filed a motion for her release from jail so she can give birth.

A hearing on the matter is set for 9:30 a.m. Dec. 20 before Senior Judge Gerald R. Solomon.

Jenna Boyd is also scheduled to be sentenced in unrelated marijuana and retail theft cases on Dec. 19 before Solomon.
