Police have accused a Uniontown man of shooting another man close to his ear in a dispute over a woman.

Lieutenant Tom Kolencik, Uniontown police, alleged on Tuesday evening, Curtis Harmon was armed with a .9-millimeter handgun when he confronted Jarod Ashburn on Ben Lomond Street.

Prior to the shooting, police alleged, a woman told Harmon that Ashburn had been physically intimate with Harmon’s girlfriend. Harmon told the woman that he was going to shoot Ashburn, the criminal complaint said.

Ashburn reportedly told police Harmon was mad about that, according to the complaint.

When the men confronted each other on Ben Lomond Street, the complaint said, Harmon allegedly said to Ashburn, “You think this is a game? You think this is a game?”

Kolencik said Harmon pulled a gun out of his waistband, but he dropped the weapon. He picked up the handgun and fired it at Ashburn, the complaint said.

Police said the first shot hit the ground while the second bounced off the ground and may have hit Ashburn’s ear, causing him to lose the diamond stud from his earring, the complaint said.

After the shooting, Harmon and Ashburn went their separate ways, the complaint said.

Police found two shell casings on the sidewalk and the handgun on a lawn nearby.

When police took Harmon into custody, he reportedly admitted to shooting Ashburn.

Harmon, 28, of 42 Ben Lomond St. Apt. 4, was charged with attempted criminal homicide, aggravated assault, possession of a firearm, receiving stolen property, firearms not to be carried without a license, recklessly endangering another person, two counts of simple assault and criminal mischief, according to court documents.

Harmon was arraigned Wednesday by Magisterial District Court Judge Wendy Dennis, who set bond at $50,000. He remains in Fayette County Prison.

A couple days prior, Harmon had allegedly burglarized a woman’s Uniontown home.

According to that complaint, Harmon started pounding on Zetta Nicholson’s front door around 11:30 p.m. on Sunday at her residence on 216 East Coffey Avenue. When she opened the door a little bit, Harmon allegedly demanded a power cord that she had, the complaint said. As Nicholson gave Harmon the power cord through her door, he allegedly kicked in the door until he forced it open, police said.

The complaint said Harmon then allegedly stole Nicholson’s $280 cellphone.

Harmon was charged with burglary, theft and criminal mischief, according to court documents. His bond was set at $10,000 at his arraignment Tuesday.
