A man was shot in the leg early Tuesday morning in the vicinity of Pershing Court in Uniontown where several rounds of gun fire were heard and numerous housing units and a parked vehicle were struck by bullets.

Jason Cox, Uniontown police chief, said the victim was a 25-year- old male from Masontown but did not identify him by name as the investigation is continuing.

Cox said police were in the area of Butler and Searights streets at about 2 a.m. Tuesday when approximately 10 shots were heard in the area of Pershing Court. Proceeding towards Pershing Court, more shots were heard and, shortly thereafter, additional shots were heard and officers saw numerous individuals running from the area of Pershing Court.

Cox said, “Officers located a handgun under a car parked at Pershing Court. Through investigating, officers learned numerous housing units in Pershing Court were struck by bullets. In addition, a parked vehicle was struck by multiple bullets.”

He continued, “No injuries from the parked vehicle or multiple housing units were reported. Police were able to ascertain a male at Uniontown Hospital was being treated for a gunshot wound. They confirmed that the victim was a 25-year-old male from Masontown with two apparent bullet wounds to the right calf.’

Cox said the victim reported being in the Pershing Court area, but noted, “The individual was unable to provide any information to help us determine who the shooter was or any specifics of the incident.”

The chief said officers were able to recover shell casings from numerous areas – some inside Pershing Court, some outside Pershing Court.
