Lanterns have been selling quickly off the shelves this season according to Bill James, the manager of Neubauer's Flowers and Market House.

Potted flowers, hanging baskets and garden decor are an inexpensive way for homeowners to create an inviting front entry for summer guests while also adding curb appeal.

Bill James, manager of NeubauerĢƵ Flowers and Market House at 34 E. Church St., Uniontown, said lanterns are popular decorating pieces being used this year along with combinations of green plants such as ferns, boxwoods and topiaries.

“A lot of people are combining things,” said James.

Hues of corals, hot pink and purple are also common choices for flowers along with vines, he added.

James noted that summer wreaths made of green or blue hydrangeas can also dress up a front door.

Better Homes and Gardens suggests placing containers of flowers near the front entry as an easy and inexpensive way to add eye-catching color.

Bold colored containers are also an attractive feature that can be seen from the street.

Adding plants in decorative urns along walkways or along stairs is another way to spruce up the front entry.

According to This Old House magazine, potted plants can draw attention to and frame an entry by choosing blooms that tie in with your paint scheme or porch furniture.

The magazine further added that potted plants can create a warm and inviting feeling without serious landscaping or gardening while dramatic or whimsical planters are a simple, but effective decorating trick.

For those with a more elaborate front entry, James suggested keeping decorating simple with a small mixture of flowers on each side of the door.

Steve Neubauer, owner of NeubauerĢƵ, said his business carries a variety of unique garden ware for the season while custom flower arrangements or decor are also available year round.
