A 17-year-old was charged as an adult for allegedly shooting an 18-year-old in the head Wednesday.

Amar Daeshawn Chisler of Uniontown is facing aggravated assault and weapons charges for the alleged incident at Pershing Court, which he told police was an accident, according to an affidavit of probable cause.

His alleged victim is 18-year-old Dametrious Addison, according to the affidavit. Police were called at about 12:30 a.m. where they said they observed Addison bleeding from the face. He was transported by Fayette EMS to Uniontown hospital, where he was flown to a trauma center.

Uniontown City Police Detective Donald Gmitter said he interviewed Chisler with his mother present. He said Chisler told him he and some friends were “hanging out” at 50 Pershing Court when one of them set a gun on the bed.

He told police he “didn’t like guns,” so he used a paper towel or napkin to move it when it “went off.” He said he threw the gun on the nightstand and tried to help Addison. He was transported to the police station for questioning. Police said he wrote a statement saying he shot Addison, and that it was an accident.

Gmitter said there was blood on Chisler’s pants and boots, and the bed and carpet were soaked with blood. He said there was a .38-Special revolver on the night stand.

Police interviewed Anna King from Fayette EMS, who asked Addison who shot him. She said he told them, “It was my friend.” She said he thought he mumbled a name that was “Blaine” or “Blake,” who lives on Lincoln Street. Police said Chisler lives on Lincoln Street.

Chisler is charged with aggravated assault, reckless endangerment, possession of a firearm by a minor and two counts of simple assault, according to court documents.

He is lodged in Fayette County Prison on a $35,000 bond.
