Springfield Twp. home heavily damaged in Thanksgiving Day fire
SPRINGFIELD TWP. — A fire heavily damaged a one-story home while the owners and their six children were away on Thanksgiving Day.
The fire, which was reported at 12:10 p.m., appears to have been started by an electrical malfunction in a bedroom of the home on Springfield Pike, said Mark Bigam, chief of the Springfield Township Volunteer Fire Department.
He said he believes the house is a total loss.
Dave Rugg, the homeowner, said he bought the house this year after renting it last year and hopes it can be repaired.
He said he, his wife and their six children just sat down for a Thanksgiving lunchtime meal at his mother in lawĢƵ house when one of his neighbors called and said his house was on fire.
Although shaken by the fire, Rugg said he is glad no one was home.
“ThatĢƵ the good thing,” Rugg said
“ItĢƵ unfortunate on Thanksgiving. ItĢƵ unfortunate anytime,” Bigam said.
The Normalville, Saltlick Township and Connellsville Township volunteer fire departments also responded to the fire.
