Driver flown from Dunbar Township crash
A man was flown from the scene after a suspected medical emergency caused him to crash into a tree and up a hill in Dunbar Township Wednesday morning.
State police said the man, whose name has not yet been released, was displaying vital signs when he was transported, though is current condition is unknown.
Police suspected he went into cardiac arrest before driving off the road at 366 Vanderbilt Rd. at about 11 a.m.
Witnesses said they went outside when they heard a boom and saw him slumped over the wheel of his truck, which was carrying a load of firewood.
“It was just a big, metal boom,” said Geneva Sumey, who lives next door to the accident scene.
She said an off-duty police officer was driving by and stopped, then performed cardiopulmonary resuscitation for about five to 10 minutes before emergency personnel arrived.
“Thank God he was coming through,” she said.
More information will be released as it becomes available.
