Uniontown woman charged with abuse of 4-year-old girl

A Uniontown woman is facing aggravated assault and other charges after her 4-year-old stepdaughter was taken to the hospital for alleged child abuse.

The girl told investigators that Amanda Dawn Pierce, 29, beat her. The child was taken to Highlands Hospital in July and treated for bruising.

When asked what happened, the girl allegedly said “step mommy beat me with a paddle,” according to the affidavit of probable cause filed in the case. She described a paddle with names inscribed on it.

The child had bruising on her face, left ear and back, along with an abrasion on her back and about 50 insect bites, according to court documents.

Uniontown police interviewed Pierce Friday. She admitted to using the paddle in the past, but claimed that in July she only threatened the girl because she was jumping on the couch. She said there are three paddles at her Lenox Street residence, and one has names on it.

She is charged with aggravated assault, endangering the welfare of children, reckless endangerment and simple assault.

Pierce is lodged in Fayette County Prison in lieu of a $10,000 bond.
