Police: Man fled traffic stop and hit two houses and a car
A Uniontown man is facing charges after police allege he nearly hit a state police vehicle, fled a traffic stop and hit two houses and a parked car.
Anthony Dwayne Jones, 31, suffered minor injuries in the crash, according to state police Trooper Stefani Lucas.
State police said they were on patrol on John Street at about 2:15 a.m. Sunday when a sport utility vehicle turned from a back alley and nearly hit the cruiser. Police turned on their emergency lights and siren, and Jones allegedly fled at a high rate of speed, according to the affidavit of probable cause.
“I turned around on the vehicle and observed the fleeing vehicle make a sudden swerve to the left and proceed sharply to the right, striking a vehicle and two occupied houses,” the complaint said.
Police said Jones got out of his vehicle, smelling like marijuana and alcohol. They said they found suspected marijuana in his SUV.
He provided a blood sample at Uniontown Hospital. There, he was also treated for minor back pain and discharged, according to Lucas.
Police found a Ruger LC9 pistol in the driveway of 35 John St., which appeared to have only been on the ground briefly, according to the complaint. A resident said the pistol was not in her driveway when she came home from work.
According to the complaint, Jones is a felon not allowed to possess a firearm. Police searched for the owner, who told them the pistol was stolen within the last week.
Jones is charged with fleeing or attempting to elude officer, receiving stolen property, firearms not to be carried without a license, possession of marijuana, reckless endangerment and six summary offenses.
He is lodged in Fayette County Prison in lieu of a $30,000 bond.
