Several Mononghela residents woke up Sunday morning to find their houses and cars were vandalized, some spray painted with swastikas.

Monongahela police are investigating the vandalism spree which they think happened at about 4 a.m. Saturday. Police Chief Brian Tempest said they believe up to five young juveniles were responsible.

He said cars, fences and houses were spray painted with lines in the area of Vine, Union and Elmira streets. Swastikas were painted near The Mounds Park and playground.

“We haven’t even totaled them all up yet,” he said. “They were numerous.”

Tempest said the targeted homes and cars appear to be random.

Police are seeking help from the public in identifying suspects. Anyone with information is asked to call Monongahela police at (724) 258-5511 or 911.
