Police execute search warrant after Uniontown child dies
Police executed a search warrant Wednesday at a Uniontown home after a 27-month-old girl was rushed from the house and died at the hospital.
Uniontown police Lt. Tom Kolencik said the investigation was triggered when police were called by hospital officials, saying the baby had died.
Police pried open the door at about 3:30 p.m. at 26 Collins Ave. Uniontown City Police, state police, a deputy coroner and a Children and Youth Services worker walked passed a purple and pink Radio Flyer tricycle with streamers on the rusted handles to begin searching the home.
Within the next two hours, multiple evidence tents were visible inside the house, beyond a large stack of bicycles and an orange front door adorned with carved white flowers.
Kolencik said he interviewed the mother at the hospital, who told him she was feeding the baby at about 10:30 a.m. Wednesday.
“(The baby) appeared sick, so she rushed (her) to the hospital,” he said.
He said the couple who lives at the home has two other children. The boys were taken by Children and Youth Services, he said.
A neighbor who asked not to be identified said she has lived nearby for about six months and had no idea the couple had a daughter. She said she often heard commotion in the house and only saw the boys outside once.
The woman questioned whether she should have called CYS.
“But I don’t like to get into other peopleĢƵ business,” she said.
An autopsy will be performed on the toddler Thursday by forensic pathologist Dr. Cyril Wecht in Pittsburgh.
Police are continuing their investigation. No charges have been filed in the case.
According to Fayette County tax records, the home is owned by the company Curry Capital Inc. of Uniontown.
