Uniontown man waives charges of ramming police car in pursuit
A Uniontown man waived attempted homicide and other charges Monday for allegedly slamming into an occupied police cruiser during a traffic stop in April.
Court records indicate that Christopher Glen Greer, 31, has habitually driven without a license since 2003. He did not accept a tentative plea deal when he waived his charges before Magisterial District Judge Michael Metros.
Greer allegedly injured Uniontown City Police officer D.J. Dewitt during his second traffic stop in less than two weeks. State police said they saw Greer weaving in between cars before he allegedly fled a traffic stop.
A Uniontown officer later spotted the vehicle near railroad tracks on Cinder Road. Dewitt drove into the area looking for Greer, then saw headlights and heard an engine screaming as the vehicle sped toward him, slamming into the passenger side of the police vehicle and pushing it eight feet, according to an affidavit of probable cause.
Dewitt suffered scrapes, bruises, whiplash and a head injury, court records said.
Uniontown police officer Kurtis Defoor reported GreerÄ¢¹½ÊÓƵ truck accelerated and plowed directly into the cruiser.
The damage to the police vehicle was estimated at $15,000.
Greer was charged with attempted homicide, aggravated assault, aggravated assault by vehicle, criminal mischief, driving under the influence, simple assault, reckless endangerment, fleeing or attempting to elude officers and habitual offenders.
His $150,000 bond was changed to unsecured Monday at the request of GreerÄ¢¹½ÊÓƵ attorney, Mary Campbell-Spegar.
Two weeks before this incident, he was charged with aggravated assault and other charges for allegedly hitting police cruisers while fleeing a traffic stop. He waived those charges.
GreerÄ¢¹½ÊÓƵ license was suspended in 2003 when he was charged with two counts of possession of a controlled substance. Since then, he has been charged dozens of times for driving with a suspended license.
In 2012, he was charged with contraband for allegedly hiding a cellphone and charger in a prosthetic leg in Fayette County Prison for more than one year. That same year, he was found not guilty of attempting to run over Steven McKnight in Uniontown after an argument.
